Glass Jewelry Making w/ Abby Franke

In this hands-on workshop led by artist-educator Abby Franke, you’ll learn the copper foil technique — cutting, grinding, foiling and soldering, to create unique wearable stained glass pieces! Participants can pick from a wide range of colorful glass to create 4 individual stained glass charms. The 4 completed charms can be assembled on earring hooks, necklace chains, or a combination of the two!
Valentine Block Printing Workshop

This Winter Holiday season spend some time with us at Side Street making your own Valentine's Day block print! You will carve and create a stamp that you can use again and again to decorate and design, holiday cards, gift bags and gift tags.
INSTRUCTOR: Nicki Warren— "I personally use block printing to make art prints and also in my bookbinding practice! Sometimes, I print on the cover of a finished book." Nicki has taught sold out block printing classes at Side Street Studio Arts and sells her artwork in MADE.
Valentine "Heart" Basket Weaving Workshop

Best for students ages 14+
In this beginner-friendly workshop, participants will weave a heart-shaped basket using rattan reed. Traditional techniques will be explored and a choice of accent colors will be available. Each student will leave with a completed heart-shaped basket that can be used or gifted.
Please bring a snack or sack lunch, or be prepared to order/pick up something to eat during class time.
Minimum 4 participants, maximum 12 participants.
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Christine Sciortino, RYT is a multidisciplinary artist, educator, and holistic practitioner with a lifelong passion for textile arts. She began sewing her own clothes at the age of 11 and went on to study Costume Design and Film at New York University. After 12 years working as a makeup artist, hair stylist, and costume designer behind the scenes of major film, TV, and theater productions, Christine published the book Makeup Artistry for Film and Television in 2020. She created and instructed the curriculum for Cinema Makeup at Columbia College Chicago from 2016-2020 before relocating to St. Charles where she learned basket weaving at a local folk arts school.

Young students will be learning about the amazing world of paper maché. Students will create 3D Paper Mache Sculptures over a 6 week class. Students will design, form, sculpt, paper mache and paint their larger scale works.

In this six-week class, artist Anna Lentz will guide students (ages 14+) through the fundamentals of appliqué and embroidery, transforming fabric scraps into expressive, textural art. Participants will explore sewing as both a functional and artistic skill while creating unique, colorful textile pieces to take home.
