Vampires Will Never Hurt You

My name is Brian Ingersoll Jr., and my piece is titled "Vampires Will Never Hurt You," loosely based on and named after a song from My Chemical Romance's debut studio album, I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love. The piece is oil on canvas, 22 by 28 inches, primarily in greens and reds. It depicts a vampire falling into the sunlight, half his face cast in shadow, half blinding in the sunlight. A single tear falls from his eye as we learn, or imagine, what will happen to him next. He stands in front of a field of cactus paddles and wears a Southwestern-style shirt and bolo tie, an homage to my hometown of Phoenix, Arizona. Even though I'm local to Chicago now, that's where I was born and raised, and it still has a large influence on my work.
