Top 10 Things to Never Look Up

Hello. My name is Jasper Rizvi, and my piece is titled "Top 10 Things to Never Look Up." This is an acrylic painting of a woman in front of a computer. On the computer screen, there are references to popular internet shock media. One video I referenced is "Blank Room Soup," a classic unsettling video. All the things I painted on the screen are pieces of media that actually scared me as a kid. My generation is the first to grow up on the internet, and one consequence of this is coming across things you aren't supposed to see at such a young age. I tried to capture fear in the young woman's eyes as she watches the screen, because I personally felt so much fear while watching the same video she's watching. I really enjoyed making this painting because it brought back feelings of nostalgia. Emotion plays a big part in this piece, and I want people who can relate to feel the fear I felt as a kid.
