Strange Reunion

Hello. My name is Maribel Hambric, and the title of my piece is "Strange Reunion." My abstract painting is done in acrylic with a photo transfer on an 8-by-8-inch canvas with a depth of 1.5 inches. The black-and-white photo transfer is a 3-by-4-inch rectangle, centered on the canvas and washed in red. It features four females posed in the entrance of an old house. Clockwise from top left, the figures are my mother and my great-grandmother standing, my grandmother sitting on the steps, and myself at the age of three, standing next to her. Because the original photo was out of focus, the blurred facial features did not transfer, which produced ghostlike appearances. In the top left and lower right corners of the canvas are gothic scrolling patterns painted in bronze on orange and yellow hues. In the upper right corner, the light of the moon shines through a cemetery fence with dark tree branches hanging above it. The lower left corner is dark and eerie, suggesting the inside of the cemetery. The orange and reddish-brown hues, with touches of yellow and bronze, surround the red photo image, creating a strangeness in my family reunion.
