Revelation I

My name is Heidi Carpenter, and my piece is titled "Revelation I." It's a giclée print depicting a full-spectrum image of the Tree of Life in Olympic National Park, Washington, printed on archival-quality cotton rag paper and framed behind UV-resistant acrylic; the overall size is 11 by 14 inches. In creating this image, I used layers of in-camera distortion with custom and combined filters, an old lens, and a converted camera to channel the soft visuals of dreams. The tree itself is a Sitka spruce with exposed roots bridging a cliffside crevice on Kalaloch Beach in Olympic National Park, Washington. Although the image is full spectrum, it looks like a sepia-toned infrared image due to one of the lens filters used. Segments of my surroundings are reflected in the image, including an overcast sky, the sun, and the winding roots of the tree, giving the image an ethereal and almost Lovecraftian appearance.
