Mutation

Hey, my name is Rose One, and I'm here to talk to you about my painting "Mutation." It is a spray paint, Posca marker, and acrylic brush painting on a 24-by-48-inch canvas. It is mostly red and purple with hints of yellow. This painting is my take on a much darker human origin story. I really wanted to portray an extraterrestrial species that has abducted Earth's primates and injected them with alien DNA to create human life. In this painting, the primate closest to the viewer, on the left, is just now waking up from the simulation and realizing it has been in a deep stasis sleep. It is also realizing that it is harboring a human life inside of it. As you look deeper into the canvas, into the background, you see a row of other primates who are still in the stasis simulation, completely unaware that they, too, are mothering human life inside of them.
