Where the Sun is Lifted: Andrés Dominguez Fernandez Solo Exhibition

This show's apparent duality balancing documented violence and the mundane assertion of our humanity is, in fact, a singular perspective. One voice. One hand. In the end this form of expression is my very own on how I navigate life everyday. I reject the political narrative that reduces my people to a stereotype by choosing instead to elevate our everyday lives as the most powerful form of counter-documentation. The core assertion of human dignity finds its material form in “Chicano ceramics”, a medium that perfectly mirrors my cultural positioning in the "in-between space" of American and Mexican cultures. By reclaiming a medium historically marginalized as "craft," I challenge the same power structures that devalue my community. Thus, my work transforms the tension of being Chicano into the strength of my art, creating a tangible, enduring testament that demands the simple, profound truth be recognized.

Ultimately, to live another day is to watch the sun rise and fall on our horizon. And as another day is gifted to us, we have but complete one task: to live. It is essential to live a life through all of its complexity and dignity, for it is the ultimate act of resistance against erasure.
