About the event
Participants will be learning how to make contemporary Native American Beaded earrings.
MEET THE INSTRUCTOR, Maritza Garcia:
Maritza Garcia is enrolled member of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians. She’s 24 year old. Born and raised in Chicago, IL. She is a former CAIEC Youth Ambassador from 2013-2014 as well as Sr. Miss Indian Chicago from 2014-2016. She is the granddaughter of the late Ike Willis and the late Onie Hickman of Bogue Chitto. Her parents are Nellie Willis Garcia and the late Sylvester Mora Garcia.
She dances all 3 styles of powwow dancing traditional, old style jingle, and fancy shawl. She travels all around the mid west showcasing powwow style dancing and her artwork. She also holds workshops for various organizations within the Chicago community.
She makes anything from beaded jewelry, ribbon skirts, and powwow regalia. You can purchase items online @chachabeads_ on Facebook or Instagram or find her at at the booth on the powwow trail this summer!
