30 minute performances, with time to mingle with the installation work and artists 1pm, 2pm, 6pm, 7pm.
By purchasing this ticket you will have access to the 1:00pm showing
The show is a rotating dance performance and installation, where participants can interact with the space and choose/change their point of view. Dance performances begin on the hour and participants are encouraged to mingle, contribute, and be present in the space before and after.
SLIP meshes embodied research, fiber art, and digital projection and seeks to explore how our dancing labor and craftivism are woven together in practice and performance through the lens of feminist dance/craft practices and values. The traditional divide between crafts and fine arts is often mired by sexism and the devaluation of women’s labor and this show explores some common themes such as "How do we craft meaning?," "How are we the craft and the crafters?" and "Anti-capitalist mindset of productivity" to name a few.
The cast is comprised of five performing artists residing in Columbus, OH and Chicago, IL and have been working together both live and on Zoom. The dual-city cast creates some challenges but also so many opportunities for collaboration and connection we are so excited to share. Our inaugural live performance was commissioned by the Going Dutch Festival with support from the Elgin Cultural Arts Commission and Side Street Studio Arts.
STILGO dance + tech is a project-based movement company that creates intermedia dance works grounded in feminist principles, contemporary dance practices, and technological interventions. This emergent company values collaboration, creative process, immersive and interactive relationships with audiences, fullness, rigor, taking up space, accessibility, queer visibility, and creating supportive and generative dance spaces. STILGO was founded in 2020 and has presented dance on film and hosted Isadora intermedia design classes since its inception but the production of "SLIP" will be our debut live performance.
Properly worn masks are required of all who attend. Capacities are limited.
