Honestly, I Have Felt Better!

My name is Chris Block, and my piece is called "Honestly, I Have Felt Better!" It is an 11-by-14-inch photo print in choppy, earthy tones that began life as a basic selfie and ended up revealing a much darker reality. (Or perhaps it's all just a lark?) Either way, the final result was not planned, though it was certainly not unwelcome. Such is the nature of image processing and artistic improvisation in general, a process I am very familiar with from several of my other aesthetic pursuits, most notably music.

The initial shot, which had previously undergone a course of digital manipulation (Affinity), was ghostly and wispy, and quite adequately conveyed a sense of otherworldliness, as suggested by the title of the exhibition. However, as I was preparing it for print, a final tweak turned the merely spectral into something much more ominous and seemingly even closer to the theme of Something Wicked.
