On October 4th... only The Dark Matters.
The Dark Matters 24-Hour Horror Film Challenge is a fast-paced experience where filmmakers are challenged to create a completed short-horror film within an amazingly short amount of time, all the while networking with other artists, creating a new and exciting experience, and pushing themselves to the extreme. From classic slasher to found footage, Dark Matters opens itself to any and all thirsting to create and dying to tell their story.
First Place Winners take home the coveted SLEEPLESS Award, $200 Cash Prize, and a load of bragging rights. Second Place Winners receive a $75 Cash Prize, and 3rd Place Winners receive a $50 Cash Prize. Special prizes will be awarded for "Best of..."
The filmmaker, with the cast and the crew, (or just alone with a camera and laptop!) is challenged to make a three to ten-minute short film based in the world of “horror.” Films may be in any style. Films may NOT contain gratuitous nudity or sexual acts. The task is to write a script, direct the actors, shoot the film, edit, apply sound and music, and deliver the film in 24 hours. The Dark Matters Film Premiere will be Saturday, October 5th at 6pm. All films must be completed and ready for viewing by this time.
Each team will receive a list of specified tasks to complete, as well as a list of special properties to be used, thus making the challenge a real time event.
There will be support teams available to help and advise the participants prior to and throughout the challenge period if required.
Dark Matters is a fast and effective way of adding to credits, creating a show-reel for actors, crew and the production team.
The registration fee for applications is $50 per team and must be received by September 25th at 5pm.
Accommodations will not be provided. Participants must find lodging for their teams independently, if necessary. That being said, participants will have access to all SSSA spaces to create, rest, eat, and sleep if needed. Accreditations for the festival will be sent via email, as well as provided at sign-in. (Details will be available nearer the date).
